Vedic Meditation
Vedic Meditation (VM) is a mantra-based meditation that is the "thinking persons" meditation, meaning, it is for everyone, especially for those of us who have "too many thoughts". I always felt I couldn't meditate because I couldn't concentrate. Once I learned VM, I instantly realized how effortless and easy it is to be a meditator. It was no longer a chore or something to dread, but something to look forward to that gave me freedom from intrusive thoughts. I ultimately realized, "I am separate from my thoughts. I am separate from what they say about me and the world around me." This was liberating for me. Meditating, along with using "Possley's Paradigm" has given me a roadmap to improved overall physical and mental wellness. I have an inner-peace & fulfillment that I didn't have before learning how to meditate. I am more content and I am overall a happier person, and I live life more fully. I am less stressed, I sleep better, and I more fully enjoy friends, family and the world around me.
What is Vedic Meditation?
Vedic meditation has its roots in ancient Vedic traditions from India. It's a technique that involves the use of a mantra to help you achieve a state of deep relaxation and heightened awareness. This form of meditation is taught by trained instructors and is known for its simplicity, effortlessness and effectiveness in reducing stress and promoting mental clarity. It's also been associated with various health benefits, including improved focus, reduced anxiety, and enhanced overall well-being.
People practice Vedic meditation for a variety of reasons. Some are drawn to it for its potential to reduce stress and anxiety, improve mental clarity, and promote overall well-being. Others are interested in its spiritual aspects and its roots in ancient traditions. Vedic meditation is also known for being easy to learn and practice, making it accessible to a wide range of people. Additionally, many practitioners find that it can be integrated into their daily routine without requiring a significant time commitment, making it a practical choice for those with busy schedules. Overall, the potential benefits of Vedic meditation make it an appealing practice for many individuals seeking to enhance their mental and emotional health.
Is Vedic meditation similar to other types of meditation that use mantras?
They are likely related. Many books, websites and apps teach meditation, and some use mantras. While there is no downside to this, learning from a trained Vedic Meditation Teacher has many advantages. You get personalized instruction, learning in-person or virtually. You have your teacher for life, as well as access to other teachers and resources within this tradition, and you can repeat the training as many times as you like without additional costs.
What are some of the benefits of Vedic Meditation?
Benefits include stress reduction and improved ability of coping with stress, improved mental clarity, improved emotional well-being, better sleep, increased creativity and other physical health benefits are just a few of the many benefits of Vedic meditation. Additionally, many people say they are more confident and self-aware. There is an increase in compassion and emotional resilience which leads to improved relationships and overall wellbeing.
I have too many thoughts and have tried to meditate before. It just doesn't work, so how is this any different?
This question is all too common, and rightfully so! We as humans have thousands of thoughts a day. This style of meditation is perfect for people who have thoughts. Our thoughts are a part of us. We do not try to alter, negate or distract ourselves from our thoughts when we meditate. In this practice, we welcome all thoughts. As we are meditating, when we become aware that we are having thoughts or are associated with our thoughts, we gently and effortlessly come back to the mantra as many times as needed during the meditation.
What religion is this based on? How religious is this practice?
While Vedic Meditation has its roots in ancient Vedic traditional from India, it is simply a meditation technique that is not tied to any religious belief system. If you are religious, you can continue to practice as this does not conflict with any religious tradition. If you are not religious, spiritual or do not have any beliefs in a high power or power outside of yourself, that is fine as well. This meditation is about the technique of meditating with a personalized mantra, which leads to healing from the inside. It is a secular practice and requires no adherence to any religious doctrines or practices. It is accessible to people of various religious and cultural backgrounds, and individuals from diverse belief systems can practice Vedic meditation without conflict with their existing religious or spiritual beliefs.
I've tried meditation before and I'm afraid I won't stick with it. What should I do?
This is a great question and one I asked myself back in 2015 when I first learned VM. I had tried so many different things and nothing stuck. I went to learn from my teacher and a year later, I couldn't believe that with her help and support, I was able to find 20 minutes twice a day to meditate consistently. That is why this technique is different. You have a hands-on approach by having me as your coach, mentor, and teacher. Additionally, once you learn VM from me, you can repeat days 2-4 of follow-up as many times as you like. Many students like to repeat the follow-up sessions 4-6 weeks after they initially learn, as questions will arise. Each time you repeat the follow-up days, you learn and retain more, which further supports your meditation practice.
Another benefits of this tradition is that once you learn from me, you can go to any other VM teacher (and we are all around the world) for the rest of your life at no additional cost. I also host a weekly group meditation session with additional teaching and reinforcement of wellness principles to address any barriers that may arise in your busy daily life. This technique is simple and effortless, and as a teacher, I want to make sure you have a positive hands-on experience. The hands-on lifelong access to my colleagues and me as your coaches, teachers, and mentors are what set this meditation practice apart from others. It is a one-time investment for the life-long training and support you will receive.
I can't find 20 minutes twice a day to meditate. What do you suggest?
Again, I felt the exact same way. I was working a corporate job with insane hours. Meetings starting at 6am and days ending at 6pm. Adding in a commute, activities with friends (or for many of you raising kids), how was I going to find the time. I attended an Introduction Talk with Q&A and realized the benefits of this meditation. Taking 20 minutes twice a day paid dividends. I had more energy. Tasks didn't take as long. I slept better, felt more rested, and found ways to be creative about finding the time. Register above to attend an Introductory Overview Talk for more information. Believe me, you can and will find the time, and the return on investment will be exponentially paid back and worth your time.
Why are there costs associated with learning how to meditate?
When you learn how to meditate with this technique, you spend about 2 hours a day in-person or virtually over 4 consecutive days learning this technique with me as your teacher. On day 1, you receive the mantra, and on days 2-4, you have daily follow-up with me to reinforce the practice and answer any questions you have during the training. Two weeks after you learn, you have another follow-up session with me to again reinforce the teaching and also to answer any questions that arise. Additionally, once you finish the four days of teaching, you have access to a weekly group follow-up with me, plus any other instructors in this tradition FOR LIFE and you can repeat the training as many times as you like.
If cost is the ONLY reason you would consider NOT learning to meditate, please come to an Introductory Overview Session or reach out directly to me at Info@ImperfectionWellness.com to discuss further.
